"Pulmonary embolism": the hospital detailed the cause of death of the Oliveras locomotive.

Alejandra "La Locomotora" Oliveras died this Monday at José María Cullen Hospital in Santa Fe. Following the incident, medical authorities held a press conference to explain the causes of her death.

Oliveras, 47, had been hospitalized in critical condition since July 14. The former boxer suffered an ischemic stroke, and although the latest reports indicated a mild clinical progression, the outcome was unexpected .

Hospital director Bruno Moroni stated that the death was caused by "severe hypoxemia that led to refractory cardiorespiratory arrest." He added that despite all necessary maneuvers to reverse the situation, she could not be revived .

"Despite all the measures taken, unfortunately, her death occurred," said Moroni, who also offered his condolences to the athlete's family. He added: "We deeply regret this loss. We are available for whatever you need." Moroni also acknowledged that, from a medical perspective, partial improvements were possible in this type of condition, but clarified that the patient was in critical condition.

"That's why one of the possibilities is that these types of situations will arise, which unfortunately do. These are situations that evolve with a lot of uncertainty ," the director of Cullen stated.

For his part, the head of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Néstor Carrizo, provided a more detailed report on the sequence of clinical events that led to Oliveras's death. He noted that, although he had been progressing stably in recent hours and had been responding with some eye opening and motor commands, he remained in critical condition, and the family had been warned from the outset about the risk of severe complications .

Carrizo also explained that the former boxer suffered a sudden event , characterized by shock and refractory hypoxemia, which prompted the activation of the emergency protocol. At the same time, ultrasound studies were performed that showed indirect but "very objective" signs of a massive pulmonary embolism .

“Despite the treatment initiated, the patient's progress was refractory, and cardiorespiratory arrest eventually occurred ,” he reported. Deep vein thrombosis was also found in the patient's lower extremities, which would confirm the presumptive diagnosis. “This is unrelated to the process of weaning from the ventilator, which was planned to begin gradually,” Carrizo clarified.

"The event that caused his death was a direct consequence of a pulmonary embolism," the professional added. Carrizo also indicated that, based on the patient's medical history and the ischemic stroke with complete obstruction of the right carotid artery, it is likely that Oliveras presented a prothrombotic state , that is, a predisposition to the formation of both arterial and venous clots.

Regarding the patient's state of consciousness prior to the final episode, Carrizo was clear in pointing out that, although the patient had moments of eye opening and motor reactions, she never fully regained lucidity or full consciousness. He clarified, "She wasn't awake like us. The only sign was her eye opening and, at times, some response to stimuli."

Finally, it was confirmed that the death occurred at 4:00 p.m. this Monday. Hospital officials expressed their gratitude for the support and reiterated their condolences regarding the tragic outcome. "Once again, our condolences to the entire family. We are deeply sorry to hear this news," the official statement concluded.
